Hammerpress was founded in 1994 by Brady Vest while extending the four year program into the four and a half year program at the Kansas City Art Institute. With a fascination of letterpress and a completely motorless Chandler and Price Platen press, he began printing CD packages and LP packages for poor and penniless art school rock and roll friends.
Now with several presses (all of which have motors, thankfully), hundreds of drawers of lead type, Hammerpress operates with a small crew creating everything from exquisite and unusual wedding invitations to custom artwork for national restaurant chains, CD packaging, corporate identity, posters and art prints, as well as an every growing line of letterpress stationery products.
