february into march

happy st. patrick's day for all the irish and not :)

RIP: rachel chan

february is a month of history for me...
in chronological order...
my dad died
my grandma died
my great-grandma died
i terminated a pregnancy
i had a baby
i left my babydaddy
i think i'm forgetting something...but that's a lot for a single individual over the course of 15 years...
i haven't had anything MAJOR happen in february since 1999 though...whew...and *knock on wood*...
except of course the major event every year in february - my son's birthday :)

and i firmly believe in learning from the past and focusing on enjoying the present and looking toward the future...but i always remember...and then february goes by and it's the wearing of the green and the remembering of rachel, my high school best friend at the time...we were both artists, we both worked at chick-fil-a...she's the first person i told when i had sex for the first time :), ahh the memories...birkenstocks, sting in concert, concrete blond...

her parents still take out a memorial ad on st. patrick's day every year in the local paper i think...i need to find the portrait i did of her to post...will show my high school drawing skillZ as well as an amazing likeness to rachel :)

anyway, enjoy the green beer! :)

another installment of the TO-DO list-apalooza

Feeling overwhelmed again... I missed the deadline for the Art Guild Holiday Art Fair . I could have asked for a late spot, artists are often late :) but I decided not to... LOLA GIANT will be happening again at Van Go Mobile Arts for TWO days! :) December 11th & 12th. So that works out I think...the ladies of lawrence artwork group have pretty good local connections, therefore media coverage and word of mouth. Plus it more closely fits my style. I do still currently have my Alphabetical Order piece on display at the Mulvane Art Museum through January 16, 2011. I am also going to enter it into the MyArtSpace Scope Miami 2010 Art Show happening at the same time as the Miami Art Basel which would be great publicity....and just great to show more work if accepted. I also need to get some more laced into the frame pieces of the "Domestic | Domesticated" series ready for sale/show. And I have a ton of wood blocks for caulk xerox transfers...still going to try la

• enter swim official training hours in system • get a haircut (though i'm tempted to cut it myself) • arrange for john to mow grandma's lawn • find background imagery for - G is for glasses - L is for love - O is for owl - S is for star - U is for umbrella - X is for x-ray - Y is for yo-yo - Z is for zipper • try out xerox transfer methods and substrates • turn alphabet into photoshop brushes • t-shirt designs • apply to "call for artists" - which means taking some good photos of my work
